Once More Unto The (Writing) Breach- October 2017

I’m having a weird moment of trying to even remember what was in October…

Yeah, that’s probably for the best, because November has been a whole new set of…I don’t even know what to call it. Let’s get into what happened in October and maybe I’ll have a burst of memory recall!

What I’ve Accomplished This Month

Well…I mean I did stuff! That’s good, right? Right????

  • Doubt The Stars

I didn’t get the proofread back until about a week and a half into November, so nothing got done on that front for October. I did make a cool announcement for my mailing list subscribers (you should click and subscribe to that, by the way. You’ll here all the book news first if you do!). But in case you don’t subscribe, here’s the cool news:

“Doubt The Stars” Release: Dec. 1st!

That’s right, I’ve set a hard release date! Finally! Those of you who know me personally, will probably recognize this date, because it’s my birthday! That’s right, I’m following the well-loved hobbit tradition and giving everyone else a present for my birthday.

More information to follow on that front in a bit!

Well, I got everything posted but the epilogue! Which is great, because honestly, I’m kind of over this fic.

I mean, like, not forever. I still have a fun plan for something in the LOTR timeline that I would like to explore in the future. But I really feel like if I can just leave Thorin, Brie, and the gang in a good place for now, I can leave this for a little while and come back to it later. Maybe in 2019…

  • Good Intentions (Age of Ultron fic): First pass edit, 15 scenes done

I’ve pretty much given up on trying to get this done this year. But I have a little bit of a plan for next year!

This is probably the thing I’m most disappointed about this year. It’s really discouraging that I couldn’t seem to get myself together enough to finish this. Oh well, we’ll try again in 2018!

  • Such Stuff As Dreams: Outline 5,000 words

I managed to finish my outline just in the nick of time!

Which is good, because I can tell you, this outline is literally the only thing keeping me going at this point. Seriously guys, November is kicking my butt…

Aaaaand, speak of the devil:

What’s Coming Up in November

NaNo-2017-Participant-Facebook-Cover

This is pretty much all I’m focusing on right now, besides trying to get Doubt The Stars ready for that impending release date. I’ve had a lot of things come up this month and try to bring me down, not least of which is the recent loss of my grandfather, which has been…hard to work through, I’m not gonna lie. It wasn’t a sudden loss, but it’s been more difficult for me than I thought it would be. But I’m determined to power through, because he wouldn’t want this to to trip me up. So here we go, the Plan!

  • Doubt The Stars– Finish proofreading, finalize formatting, order proof copy of paperback and upload all files for publication.

As I said earlier, I finally got my manuscript back from the proofreader, and now it’s just a matter of minutiae and final touches, which might be a little more complicated than I had anticipated. But I’m gonna do it! I am! If it kills me! But, you know, hopefully it won’t come to that.

  • Such Stuff As Dreams (NaNo 2017)– Finish First Draft

I am, once again, attempting to finish the entire first draft of this story for  National Novel Writing Month. It’s going…not as well as I would like. But I’m just going to keep plodding along as best I can. Because that’s all we can do really.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled:

Fog’s Cute Animal of the Month

Well, kind of. As I said, I’m having kind of a stress-filled month. So here, have some baby chameleons, because my friend Sonja shared it with me on Facebook and I just CANNOT EVEN…

See you all next time!
